The Jemmy Button Cycle

Description

In 1830, during an expedition to Tierra del Fuego, Captain Robert FitzRoy took four Fuegians to England: York Minster, Fuegia Basket, Boat Memory, and a Yaghan boy named Orundellico, traded for a mother-of-pearl button and, for that very reason, renamed Jemmy Button. The plan was to educate them in the English manner and return them as interpreters and evangelisers of their own people… Jemmy never came to be English, and had ceased to be Yaghan.
