A figure fills the foreground: the head of Meowth, the Pokémon cat, fitted onto the body of a classical marble nymph. It sits inside a brutalist stairwell, and from a corner behind it a face smiles out: Elton John, or rather his wax figure from Madame Tussauds. A cold blue light gives marble, cartoon and wax the same skin. Each element is already a copy (a mascot, a statue, an effigy), and the painting adds one more, blurring the scene like an old flash photograph that has faded unevenly, its surface scratched and stained. The title moves between the cat, the old jazz slang for someone with style, and the temperature of the palette.
