In this reinterpretation of Rubens’ “The Rape of the Daughters of Leucippus,” the mythological scene, now bursting with vibrant tones and characters captured in the form of beloved childhood stuffed animals, emphasizes the softness and friendly nature of these toys to contrast them strongly with the intensity of the original scene, creating a tension between the playful and the serious. The use of these characters reflects a demystification of the old narrative and, at the same time, evokes nostalgia in the viewer.
